Writing this song I had a very bizarre experience: I was erasing a section that wasn’t working and I thought…-what if the music never comes?- I’d wondered something like that before but this was the first time that question had stared me right in the face. I think part of the success of the production of this song came from this: As I reassured myself that music always comes, the notes that I had just erased seemed to be smiling at me and scoring the very thought of -What if the music never comes?-
My influences for this one include Venus: The Bringer of Peace, Super Mario music, a George Gershwin sensibility, and a play on 3-note Latin music vamping.. The fanfare at the beginning I thought was going to be a separate song but I ended up combining it with the salsa part. For the fanfare I tried to make it get progressively jazzier.
