Most of these songs have been deviations from their original intent. This was originally just going to be a chord progression. But I…ah jeez guys ya gonna make me say it?…put a pencil to paper and started developing my ideas…For some reason I never fear the blank page. Actually I know the reason, because it’s never blank…All your ideas have been sparring with other ideas, festering, and accumulating toward this very moment. Even if you’ve never had an original thought in your life, that thought defines your parameters of what you need in order to be okay, and draws it to you. But enough on frauosophy, let’s talk about Super Mario Fraudessy…
Like I said, I wrote the chord progression first and thought it seemed interesting. It was a bit of a strain to focus on a chord progression vehemently but I came up with some interesting changes. The next part was fun, I voiced those chords for a guitar and I came up with some pretty bizarre spacing. Next thing that happened was I started humming some simple figure which became the first three seconds of the intro. By then I had so much hand-written notation that I was getting frustrated so I downloaded the trial version of crescendo and blocked out the entire song into 2 sections: the recorder solo, and the banjo melody. Then I wanted something metallic and percussive like the Spiderman 2 soundtrack so I chose rattling cans. This absurdly complex song was done yet no one’s thought to include it in ‘The Real Book’. 1 note samba is in it, but not this one.
